What is CHAMP Ambassadors?

CHAMP (Community Health Awareness, Messages and Prevention) Ambassadors will use student-led digital storytelling and peer workshops to create a first-of-its-kind curriculum connecting digital wellbeing to long-term cancer prevention. By translating these narratives into a formal "State of Digital Wellness" campus guide, the initiative aims to establish a replicable model for institutional policy and public health practice nationwide.

Problem

Our project addresses the critical but understudied link between poor digital wellness and rising cancer rates among Gen Z by investigating how online habits influence long-term health risks. By developing targeted educational programs and policy recommendations at UMD, CHAMP Ambassadors will empower young adults to adopt healthier digital behaviors that mitigate cancer risk factors.

Solution

Our workshop series will amplify authentic narratives of young people along with important educational material regarding the connection between digital wellbeing and cancer control behaviors (physical activity, drinking, smoking, etc). Additionally, we will create a "State of Digital Wellbeing" guide for University of Maryland students (and young people beyond!) to utilize to manage their digital wellness through a long-term cancer control lens!
